Where It Paused

2025, Found wooden objects wrapped in paper thread, Dimensions variable *In progress

Where It Paused is a series in which secondhand wooden furniture and everyday wooden objects are wrapped with hand-twisted paper thread.

From a human perspective, these objects have lost their function and are often repaired, reused, or discarded. I wrap them in paper thread as a way of holding them and allowing them to exist in a different way. The slow and repetitive act of wrapping places the objects in a state between stillness and continuation, a way of staying with what has already been paused and holding it where it is. The sharp, lifted ends of the paper threads respond to subtle air movement, giving the wrapped objects an almost living presence. The work reflects on a state that exists somewhere between what continues and what has stopped.

Paper is made from trees whose natural cycle has been interrupted by human intervention, and wooden furniture is also part of this halted cycle. By bringing these two materials together, I point back to their shared origin and attempt to touch a cycle that once continued but has been paused.
